It’s not enough that Amazon has profited enormously from the COVID crisis. It now wants taxpayers to bailout the Postal Service so it can continue to rake in massive profits.

Hmmm, now why wouldn’t Amazon just create it’s own delivery division, like UPS?

Oh right, because you can’t siphon off tax funds if you do that.

they tried, the drivers stole all the packages

My Amazon packages are delivered almost exclusively by Amazon trucks and contracted delivery vehicles; the only time I see USPS used is when the package is tiny and/or it is a 3rd party seller not using Prime.

I know my situation doesn't apply everywhere, but they are trying to create their own delivery system and it works pretty well in my area.

They probably use USPS for last-mile in smaller cities and rural areas.

The real solution is to let people in more remote areas foot the increased costs of delivery to said areas. Pay for what you use.

They would die without USPS. They set up their distribution warehouses in strategic parts of the U.S. and then they rely on USPS economy shipping methods to get packages to the destinations. If you live in just the right region that's not close enough to one of their warehouses even with their 2-day shipping it can take 3-5 days to arrive. But they'll still charge you prime as a 2-day delivery service. I've only signed up for their trials a couple of times and I found that their prices really aren't that great. You can use certain websites to track product pricing history and buy it only when it's at historic lows. I only buy from there when absolutely no other online stores have it.

I could count on one hand the number of Amazon deliveries received by USPS over the last 18 years. Maybe it's different in rural areas?

It must be a rural thing then. Usually the tracking shows it gets transferred to USPS at the last leg of the journey.

Makes sense as the rural addresses have the highest delivery costs.

And USPS would die without government help. Private entity my ass. It's subsidized therefore lacks the invigorating feedback of the market.

I could have walked 15 minutes to receive my latest "very late" letter.

It took USPS 10 days to deliver it a few miles across town.

Why we are (partly) here at this moment in time, because passed the Post Office accountability act , on Xmas eve, nobody was paying attention. They shoved this "Law" into the massive budget that no one would read. This LAW says that the PO will have to "PRE-FUND ALL FUTURE EMPLOYEES, AND FUTURE RETIREES, HEALTH CARE COSTS 75 YEARS INTO THE FUTURE."

AND the LAW says, "the PO will do this in 10 years time, deadline 2016." This Law was Bush and Congress giving a big fuck you to the PO. IE. we will dismantle the PO, and sell off the properties and assets.

There is no other office, government, private sector, small business, ngo, NO ONE ELSE IN THE WHOLE WORLD is required to "pre-fund" their future employees health insurance. FOR SEVENTY FIVE YEARS INTO THE FUTURE. People who are not actually born yet, the PO has to "pre-fund" "their" health insurance.

Ain't got shit to do with amazon, been planned and implemented for 15 years now, circling the drain. Amazon and PO won't tell you, "that 50lb bag of "chewey dog food"? Amazon don't deliver that, they "hand it off" to the PO. Let the PO people break their damn back, not amazon".

They won't talk about the contracts/memos of understanding about "last mile delivery", where amazon FED-EX AND UPS, hand packages to PO (sure, for a price) to deliver to individual residences. "Last mile delivery" is NOT profitable to fedex, ups, amazon, so they won't deliver. Just hand it off to PO.

Search for yourself, "PO accountability act 2006". There is a reason we are here at this point. The Congress (House) passed PO relief act in 2020, to get rid of idiot ass (75 year pre-fund) Law. McConnell (rino) let the bill rot, on his desk, would not bring it up. NOW, "House" has to bring it up again, to be revoted on, again. No idea if the Senate will take it up.
