Yeah, it looks pretty cut and dry alright, but slippery slope. If that kind of thing became normal and expected it would only be a matter of time before accidents happened, or scumbags started abusing it. The guy who rescued the kids is a hero, he's going to prison because society needs to be orderly almost as much as it needs to be safe.
