We're living in an age where tattoos and punk hair styles are actually signs of conformity. Real hippies wouldn't be cheering on the government nanny state and begging to be injected and tracked.
The "real" hippies were immediately subverted and co-opted and the "normal" hippies that everybody are familiar with would do exactly that
If we pose your response in comparison to what was originally thought of as hippie culture--turn off, tune out, etc. Then yes, I agree with you. The hippies from the 60's and 70's became the yuppies of today. Those boomers became everything they hated. They merely brought the counter culture with them and made it mainstream.
The alternative would be to go back to what their parents were; traditional and classy. 🤷♂️
