I've seen similar closures in the company I work for. It 100% has to do with minimum wage. We are one of the best performers in our industry and our stock has the top 1% growth within our industry right now. It's not us. It's the minimum wage.
Those stores have all odds against them for "performing well" when you see how those factors affect the performance bar. We had a store in an area with high rent, and with a high minimum wage. The amount of volume you have to do out of a tiny city store is practically impossible. The high labor costs mean margin per volume is tiny. The high rent means you have to do huge amounts of it done cent by cent per person who walks in the door. LA already had high minimum wage and so those stores were under performing. You raise it higher and that's the nail in the coffin.
