While I don't buy the narrative. I think that the officer had every right. The barrier is there because it shows there not welcome. Any advancement past it is considered hostile.
In the videos of the event, you can see that officers outnumbered the actors (because many officers were on the side of the actors too), so an officer would not have seen imminent danger.
But it wasn't an officer. There are photos of him before the event, running around with the gun pulled and the finger on the trigger. Lacking trigger discipline is a sign of a crisis actor, not an officer.
