Met an English girl in Amsterdam who had a bit of a limp cos she’d parked her bike behind a van the day prior and the van had reversed over her. The van drivers attitude was “what the fuck were you doing behind my van, you should’ve been on a cycle path,” and the English girl’s attitude was that she was stupid to have parked up behind a van. Similar with all the canals in Amsterdam, other than on the bridges there are no barriers to keep morons out of the canals. I like the Dutch attitude to these things - if you’re too stupid to keep yourself safe in public then it’s nobody else’s responsibility to keep you safe.
