Collective punishment is seen as evil in Anglo-Saxon individualistic law. Yet it shows up everywhere, including in the US military (a unit is punished for one dumb private's mistakes), laws of war (collateral damage, embargoes, etc), politics, etc. It's simply a human behavior that's rooted in genetics.

Back in the 80s I worked with an old guy , well in my youth he seemed old , who was in the Wermacht. His family were devout Catholics, they despised Hitler and the Nazis. Some French partisans had set up an ambush killing several officers and enlisted men the night before. They were orders to round up military age men from a nearby village and execute them. My coworker said it was about 15 of them , just boys and old men.
He and another soldier protested , said they weren't going to do it. The C/O told them they either follow their orders or join the villagers against the wall.

My Opa was a German soldier and he told me how he was captured by american soldiers and did some jail-camp time and was released. In my grandparents garage is a metal 'mill', like a drill press but able to side-chop stuff. when i saw my grandparents last he was 91 or 92 and we hung a chandeller from the attic into the dining room and shot a 22magnum rifle on his neighbors ranch. Texans. My grandmother is great at sewing and still very smart. she like myself can wake up at a certain time without much thought/effort.

Wonderful memories. My father used an "indian alarm clock" by drinking a glass of water before bed. All German on his side of the family. GGfather was a *ahem overseer on a plantation, owned slaves. I won't live around blacks nor libs, both would kill my family if they found out. They are already talking gibbing to blacks who's relatives were slaves spurred on by the jews no doubt.
