Eliminate single points of failure, yes use many fuel systems for energy. Don't forget that natural gas can be cheap as free and ruinously expensive a month later. It can be great to use but totally screw you if you 100% depend on it. Next level option is to get a gas powered electrical generator for your house. I would like to do that. Only because I can't afford fluidized bed coal reactor...
