This has been a day one grievance of the bot farms and paid-poster third party contractors that work for the CCP, U.S. Gov, and Israeli gov. Designed to limit and raise the cost of their bullshit.
They've resorted to stupid trash headlines like these to discredit the site ever since.
If I started a site like it, I would do the exact god damn thing: force people to verify with at least a phone number. Also means I can easily send them all messages if the site goes down, detailing backups.
