In my area the emergency measure also requires the store to post a sign. Clearly this is compelled speech - i hope they can recover legal expenses. Aside, politely asking a customer to wear a mask is fine, and I also think it is fine for the customer to ignore compelled speech. in most cases nobody follows up on the sign and talks to you.

I suppose so if one is to be consistent. I think what together we show is that there is not agreement about whether covid justifies compelled speech. If you believe it is safety information do what you like to take care of yourself. Many, many others believe that compelled speech is not justified here and that belief is reasonable to these people.
