Yes, that is the concern. There is science which suggests that it's the sun which generates the Earth's magnetosphere by induction.

Something catastrophic happens to this planet every 12,000 years or so. The science is pointing to a micro nova event in the next 40 years.

Yes, and that can only happen when the magnetosphere is weakened enough, which cannot happen until the sun goes into a grand minimum.
