I think they most likely don't believe it's actually happening and don't understand the ramifications.

Their attitude is, if I'm doing nothing wrong, what is there to hide? Literally. I've asked them this to their face.

But then I tell them, what if I'm the one who is listening to you through their phone?

That's when they don't like it. They can't see a person when they hear 'government is listening to you'. They don't know anyone that works in government, and can't personify it.

But once you do that, then they care.

That’s creepy awesome.

I have a really hard time explaining the bandaids on every device... Closest I can get is: vanity.

I don’t want to get dressed for an Instagram pic just to scroll on my phone.

If they don't care if anyone is listening then they shouldn't bitch when their oh so convenient Alexa gadget hears something it doesn't like and calls police to their residence. We all know this is coming. You do have a good point, though.

It's not like an army of CIA/FBI/NSA douchebags can listen to that much information. It's sent to AI to look for key words/phrases.

Also it's stored so if they need to fuck with you in the future they can pull your file and find something incriminating that you said. Lastly if they don't find something incriminating they can use AI to produce a voice that sounds like you saying something incriminating.

Yep, your guilty no matter how they "plant" it. The phone is much easier.

99 out 100 people do not have a basic understanding of technology. 999 out of 1000 people do not have basic understanding on how to cook. 9999 out of 10,000 do not have a basic understanding of politics. 99999 out of 100000 do not have a basic understanding of nature.
