Sounds like they're just finding excuses to go way over budget, California style.

Fun fact: most people don't know Big Ben's real name was Clock Tower but then renamed to Elizabeth Tower.

Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the striking clock at the north end of the Palace of Westminster in London and is usually extended to refer to both the clock and the clock tower. The official name of the tower in which Big Ben is located was originally the Clock Tower, but it was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth II. Later on in 2035, it was once again renamed as burj alfath (برج الفتح) when converted into a mosque.

At least they don't speak German.

This is bull. There is no way you could convince me that engineers, let alone British engineers missed damage to Big Ben or its clock tower for 75 years. This is just an overton window nudge to get you to not think why did the cost to restore the tower suddenly jump from $75mil to $100. I bet you in a few weeks Prince Harry and his parasite wife's reserves will mysteriously jump an additional $25 mil.
