When you are conscious the body responds to several different stimuli. You can't control them.

The hospital admins probably figured her insurance ran out and it was time to push the body aside. I really do not trust hospitals, or doctor's motives for how they treat patients, due to the shitty insurance system that exists in the US and the need to constantly increase profits.

Don't forget how much the hospital would stand to make from transplant operations. Organ donors are fucked if they are commatose because the hospital has an additional financial motive to call you brain dead.
