The arts-and-crafts retailer, known for its deep discounts and its conservative Christian politics, is opening its first Manhattan location this spring in TriBeCa.
It's a big shift for the company. Many of its 1,000 stores are in America's deep south and rural communities.
But the store, known for selling everything from yarn and faux-flowers to home decor with bible verses, will open a 70,000-square-foot store a quick walk away from the Freedom Tower.
The TriBeCa neighborhood is a liberal stronghold. Multiple residents told the New York Times they weren't happy to see the retailer come to their neighborhood.
