I haven't had this issue.
I use a redirector to auto-change the youtube links to yewtu.be (or other alt) links

Perhaps it’s my OS (iOS) or browser …. Since my love for YouTube is up there with being eaten alive by a swarm of angry octopuses on Meth, perhaps you could share your favorite redirects?
