Just saw the movie, and as the title said: it's pretty much the same characters as the original, but with new story beats and new characters.

Yes, there's an effeminate guy in the movie, and he's pretty much the same character that Glenn Shadix played in the first film: a useless waste of flesh that exists purely for mockery. However, he's never built up as the "savior"; he is literally the brunt of the joke. No spoilers, but he gets what he deserves.

Winona Ryder (Lydia Deetz) plays the same character that she did in the first film but with an extra 20 years of baggage. Perfect characterization, no complaints. Jenna Ortega (Astrid Deetz) plays the daughter of Lydia, and there's no girlbossing at all. She's flawed, she makes mistakes, and she's a believable character for it. Lydia's step-mom Delia (Catherine O'Hara) plays an even more exaggerated version of her character from the original, and there's no apologizing for her character; she's basically a vapid cunt and the movie doesn't care whether you like it or not. She's there, she's unlikable, and there's no redemption arc for her. Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice/Betelgeuse) is exactly how he was in the first film, which is exactly the point. He's intended to be an unlikable character, someone with no growth at all, and it's one of the cornerstones of the movie.

It's definitely not hating on strong men though, because there's a beautifully poignant scene at one point with a competent White cast member (no spoilers).

There's no immediately quotable/memeable lines (i.e. "Nice fucking model!"), but I loved the first film and definitely enjoyed the second. If you liked the first one, go see this one.

You shut your whore mouth. It's a followup to a cult classic, and at the very least it was "okay".

Please, elaborate on your allegation of it being "terrible" because I'd like to know why you hated it, so I can completely dissect, vivisect and opinionate on your views.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the first (as a kid and as an adult, plus on acid), but 30 years to a sequel was not planned well. The characters were spent and it showed, in addition that it took an hour - over half the movie - to actually get to some kind of a point.
