It's not creepy and unsettling when you know how LLM AIs work. They are not now and never will be sentient. They do not think. They merely enable humans who also do not think to conjure up intelligence where there is none.

Its the personification of software by developers. I think it largely became a thing with apple's "digital assistant" siri. Its cringey as hell, and I want to pull my hair out whenever some dumbass refers to a program/chat bot with pronouns, or when a program presents an error which states something like "I can't do [x y z], or "I need to complete an update".

Idiots were programmed to associate software to people and now lines of code have morphed into "sentient beings".

Yeah, I keep trying to explain this to people but they keep not listening to me and trying to argue. "BUT IT SAID XXXXXXX" Yeah man, you are just too dumb to understand that is basically a super good chat bot. Not something thinking. It's like a furby with super powers.

You may as well be talking to a tree and thinking it is talking back to you. It's just that this one has a ton of computer power behind it to make it seem like it's thinking/talking.
