I have to agree this is a good thing. My gf's hearing aids are $5000 each. Gigantic ripoff imo. Now maybe competition will change that.

It worked with glasses. Pay a bit for an exam somewhere and provide the results to an independent org and pay a fraction of.

Glasses wise, I bought a daily pair and prescription ANSI certified safety glasses for <$100. Hopefully this does the same with hearing aids.

I played hockey with a guy years ago who owned a optical lab. I have a high prescription and new lenses from him were 1/3 the price. The markup on glasses has always been ridiculous, especially the mall stores convincing people those are "High End".

Not only is the markup screwed, the intentional change/manipulation of prescriptions to increase sales is evident in many places.

Gov agencies need to butt out more than in but if there's a bit of a change up with hearing then the market will be shook up a bit and in favor of the buyer. I know a few older folk that'd take advantage of changes. Hope things will get better for your gf.
