A phone call later, Strathdee discovered phage treatment was well established in former Soviet bloc countries but had been discounted long ago as “fringe science” in the West.
There's a lot of people that need to be dead over this topic.
The Russians are way ahead of the west in this area. They have pharma companies already manufacturing bacteriophage cocktails.

Truly awesome, although I bet his gut microbiome was eviscerated by the phages as well. I wonder if a fecal transplant would fix some of the lingering effects of the treatment.
Phages are pretty specific in the bacteria they target, so it probably didn't affect his gut much.
I could see that. Although I imagine they did try numerous antibiotic treatments unsuccessfully until finally stumbling upon this remedy.
