We'd have less trash and happier people if everything was made by those standards including raw materials as in food, everything is halfassed and or tainted to diminish it's life and quality. That is like stealing in my book.

We would have a lot less trash, but companies couldn't sell you a new washer every 5 years because the one you bought is made from the lowest quality materials by people who don't understand that aluminum and stainless in an ionic bath results in a sacrificial anode.

The problem is that they do understand that, that's why they can sell you a new washing machine every 5 years, it's very carefully designed to last the minimum amount of time in excess of the warranty period.
