I think any sort of reinforced glass is going to be alternating sheets of glass and plastic, not just pure glass. So throwing a hydrocarbon on it is going to fuck with the chemistry of the plastic over the glass. Not the glass itself.

I think any safety glass that shatters into tiny pieces has plastic on the outer and inner surfaces.

You add some fine silica sand into the mix. When they go to wipe it off they scratch their visors and shields. It has great potential to jam up mechanical components of equipment too.

Riotshields are plastic. Alcohol destroys them and makes them brittle. I would assume this would be similar.
