You in America? I know beef prices are crazy over there. In Western Europe it's pretty affordable, especially if you buy in bulk and cut it yourself.

(By the Pound USDA, CA)

Steak: $6 .00-- %9.00

Beef Chuck Roast: $5.00

Ground Beef: $4.95– $6.809

Chicken thigh: 2.00- 4.00

Chicken breast: $3.00-5.00

Pork Shoulder: uuuh, I forget. 2 years ago it could be found for .99-2.50. Now I think it goes for 4.00-5.00
