This stinks. I don't believe funding is the reason. Putt claims funding ended 9 months ago but did not mention it or bother to ask for support. He knows many people are willing to donate to keep Voat alive. I believe he was "persuaded" to shut it down.

Putt is a fucking liar and we should all know that by now.

Seems like the only reasonable conclusion after the dipshit hangs the whole community out to dry with less then a week warning.

Dude, he been lying for awhile. I never trusted him after he banned me from Preview.

Free speech isn't always being able to say nigger, sometimes it is being able to question an admin without being banned

It's pretty damn manipulative behaviour to sit on this for 9 months and then announce 4 days beforehand that he's pulling the plug. He would have had at least a couple of months warning, even with the assumption he had no intention to accept funding off others (which stinks to high hell because he did so before).

THIS.

Putts behavior and reasoning at the end was utterly incomprehensible. Why keep the thing going for months out of your own pocket? Why not tell the users on the platform? It's not like he was doing any maintenance or housekeeping or anything at all, the site was well on it's way to death when he pulled the plug anyway. Why didn't he just pull the pin months ago, or had he prepaid the server / domain fees or something?

Look at the bright side: Voat goes down on its own terms and nobody can claim victory over it, when did that ever happen?
