Those "DDOS" attacks supposedly led to the site being locked under a login. They never left that, and now it's just an echo chamber, and why I'm here now.

Indeed it is.

What really is going on over there?

I mean... "There's something wrong with this picture" https://pic8.co/sh/TpTTQn.jpeg , idk if you see what I mean

Basically, if the site was taken over, by politically hostile people, what would you get?

The worst elements, brigading/harassing random users who don't exactly fit the SBBH arbitrary mood of the day for instance, while admins are completely awol if not endorsing that policy, or brushing it off as trivial, double standards all over the place. You would get some sort of gated wall, because it's better to abuse people behind closed doors, so there's nobody to hear them scream...

I'm not saying that's what is happening to voat. But, what is happening to voat? It's bizarre, that's how I feel about it

But according to web archives, it was openly accessible until 2019 Q3 (approximately).

That's about the time I started reading here. I'm pretty sure (but may be wrong) that it was under lock and key sometime earlier in 2019.

I'll be honest, I don't remember exactly, but it's been long enough that it just got plain annoying to even try to read the site, considering the login and the constant errors. But I'm pretty sure it was before Q3.

edit: Made another post with more info.

As best I can tell you, the lockdowns and site instability started around the time of this post:

https://archive.is/mXxlj

A particular post got targeted, not sure if it's referenced in there, but the site started to go on and off of lockdown, until one day they just never let it back up. There were periods of time when you could browse the front page freely, but they usually went away quickly as another round of "DDOS' happened.

Lol I remember when this happened.

It's always sad to see the downfall of free-thought sites in this muffled society. Hope for the best but bracing for the worst.

There was even a time when fark.com was wonderful. Now they're just IT libtards and true to form they're struggling.

Don't be too hard on voat. They have enough problems.
