Mussolini and his wife was actually killed by British agents who crossed enemy lines near the end of the war to make sure he died. They were found in the countryside taken down to a country road Stonewall and shot against the stone wall. This was because Churchill had secretly made an agreement with Mussolini to divide up parts of Europe if Mussolini agreed to align with Britain instead of with germany. Churchill could not let that agreement be known after the war. Churchill also went around Europe on a quote painting tour saying he was painting landscapes when actually he was going around with his henchmen finding and identifying and killing the owners of the last copies of that agreement. There was actually a documentary made about that which I can't find but at one time it was on I believe Netflix but like a couple of other really good documentaries about World War II it's disappeared and it hasn't reappeared since.
