There's a certain cycle of life for platforms, the penultimate phase of which is being overrun with bots and corps and old people, before people give up and stop using it. The Next Big Thing is never just the last thing with more features. It usually comes from a different angle. Twitter was based SMS-length messages and benefited from the novelty of people posting from their phones. Tik Tok and Snapchat and Instagram all started with richer media as the fundamental unit.

The phase of being overrun may be the most profitable. Maybe that is why Mr Musk is after it.

I think he is only after it out of guilt. He sees all the propaganda and censorship and has finally felt some shame for not using his billions to do anything about it. I don't know why Twitter though.

Oh, well, that's easy. It's the platform on which he enjoys running his mouth.
