Devil's advocate: Users ruined the internet. It makes sense in a distributed system like the internet for people to make creative interactive websites and to make them as good as possible competing with one another. What else did we want developers on the internet to do? The problem is that users didn't value visiting a diverse number of websites and allowed themselves to be corralled into farms when no one required them to.
The problem is that NPCs were once not on the internet, but now they are, and because NPCs never see a big picture on their own, can't be a source of any positive momentum and instead direct the momentum of the internet to an internet that helps make our society shit.
