Taliban probably rolled up, sent a message that anyone who resisted would be shot or have their throats slit, and then everyone immediately threw down their arms. Some of the Taliban fighters are extremely experienced, dedicated, highly motivated soldiers. They can make a very formidable fighting force- but they get by on intimidation alone for most of their conquests.
