  • A few minutes into the Fellowship of the Ring, Isildur takes the Ring of Power after severing it from Sauron's finger.
  • He is then shown riding on horseback with a group of soldiers and the ring hangs from a chain around his neck.
  • He and his soldiers are soon ambushed by orcs, where a glimpse of those he rides with are shown.
  • Among this group of soldiers shown for half a second are two niggers.

All these years I had thought the trilogy was nigger-free. I had to stop it and back it up to verify I really did see niggers.

(Yes, I know orcs are in the trilogy and orcs are niggers, but these are 'standard' niggers.)

You know.. I don't know why its never occurred to me.. to look for tolkien audio books.. I really enjoyed the jackson films, and I know that books are typically far more dense with details..

I have listened to a fair bit of middle earth lore through some youtube channels.. Indeepgeek and nerdoftherings?

Edit: I just checked spotify, there are probably a few hundred hours of content. I think I've found something to listen to while driving to and from work and mowing the lawn for a long while.

The LOTR narrated by Rob Inglis is fantastic. Same for his version of The Hobbit.
