I hope they had to use their own drinking fountains at least.
While the original Jackson trilogy is a good introduction to Tolkien, even so I find them difficult to watch. They're like Tolkien at 2.5x speed and only so much. The screenplay changes of the last two I get -- necessary to wrap story that would have taken a 4th movie -- but nonetheless I hate the omissions. As for what he gratuitously did to The Hobbit, screw Jackson.
Your best experience? Good hard-bound versions of the books. Never "reimagined" or unavailable due to streaming rights. Silmarillion is a hard read but there are other good romps to scratch your itch. Children of Hurin is a fine read.
Keep the movie trilogy for light entertainment but, if you really enjoy the clean isolation of Tolkien's worlds, read.
And if you want to explore the rich mythology of the African continent I'm sure there are a multitude of African authors to draw from.
You know.. I don't know why its never occurred to me.. to look for tolkien audio books.. I really enjoyed the jackson films, and I know that books are typically far more dense with details..
I have listened to a fair bit of middle earth lore through some youtube channels.. Indeepgeek and nerdoftherings?
Edit: I just checked spotify, there are probably a few hundred hours of content. I think I've found something to listen to while driving to and from work and mowing the lawn for a long while.
The LOTR narrated by Rob Inglis is fantastic. Same for his version of The Hobbit.
Who do you think spied and watched the ring?
There was also a brief flash of a darkie guarding The White Tree of Gondor, ironically enough.
The only skin visible on him is just around the eyes and it appears light-toned/White to me.
At least their appearances were so flash brief that it took decades for the observant to sus them out. Unlike the we-be-lawd-a-dem-kangs-an-shit darkie ghetto hood rats running amok in Lake Town in The Hobbit flicks. I will not stoop to address the Amazon abominations, as I have never given a thought to watching those turds.
