Stewardess used to be a prestige job. They proudly only took the most qualified, fit, and attractive.
Ending meritocracy and this is but one of the results.

Is it meritocracy to be hired for your looks? That is not something you can control, and goes away with time and by consequence experience.
It is a no skill job.
Yes, in some cases. Because part of their job is to represent the company as the customer facing relationship. The other criteria tends to self sort it anyways.
There was a hooters airline, or something like that, which advertised having hot young stewardesses. They went bankrupt in a year. The other stuff does not sort itself out. People actually care about service too. Pretty girls don't hustle.
