The purpose of the minimum wage was to stabilize the post-depression economy and protect the workers in the labor force. The minimum wage was designed to create a minimum standard of living to protect the health and well-being of employees.
And it did before the country moved off the gold standard. So by design the minimum wage has always been about providing a standard of living.
The standard of living at the time was very different. Much smaller houses, much simpler vehicles, no computers and iphones and bullshit, kids wore hand me down clothes, if your jeans got a rip you patched them. These people now, they want their minimum wage to support a standard of living where everything is excess, throw away, luxury. Go to a low income apartment complex and section ape housing. Look at the cars people drive, the clothes they wear, their big screen tvs, their electric gadgets. What they think minimum wage should provide today is a life of luxury and excess compared to the standards of previous generations.
Now days there's no option for a simple vehicle, you need a phone for work, and cheap housing means you're surrounded by non-whites. If it wasn't for "integration" people would still be able to comfortably live off of minimum wage.
Work should be supplying the phone and other devices. BYOD needs to die and it never will so long as people keep accepting it for the sake of convenience.
It's ok to work 160 hours a month to cover the median rent with federal minimum wage because flat screen tvs exist.
Boomer detected, opinion discarded.
So you think the lowest legally possible paying job should provide a life of luxury and support a family. Thats absurd. And fuck off with yur boomer bullshit. Im a milennial, the way i understand it. On the older edge of it.
You walked everywhere, there was no TV to tell you to buy things, and the internet wasn't around.
Basically you bought and consumed what you needed, nothing more.
