I was going to have it be /amaturefishbreeding because that’s what I do I just didn’t think anyone would take it serious.
Maybe not many but I would be interested in reading about your adventures. What are you breeding? I fondly remember breeding fan tailed guppies and trading 6 gorillion of them for four veiled pearl angels in the 80's.
I do it different than anyone else i think. I have ZERO water changes. I add water. I Don't take away. My tanks are heavily planted and i use a 4"-6" thick substrate mix with pebbles in the backing slope to allow anaerobic bacterial growth intentionally. Lots of floating plants and frequent trimmings mean i have zero ammonia or nitrites/ates.
As a rule of thumb that means a lot more plant than fish, so i nerd in nano fresh water.
apistogramma cacatuoides super red: Only had the pair for about 2 weeks and they spawned in a 20 Gallon. Separated the male a week or two late so he may have got some fry but i have around ~15 growing up right now and will try for a second spawn when i move the female into the males tank
Galaxy Danio (Celestial Pearl Danio) I have these guys breeding in a 30 Gallon, about ~15 fry growing with adults,
In the same 30G i have Scarlett Dario dario that bred in my 75G i just have them living in the same tank.
I also breed blue dream shrimp and have a good lineage going on Gen 20+.
I keep otocinculs, pygmy corydora, ornate gobyies, SAE, Chili rasbora and sparkling Gourami.
And i have a pea puffer for the wife's tank upstairs. Yes i have my own fish room.
This is awesome. I need pictures.
I've got about two inches of soil and two inches of sand, with a bit of pebbles on the surface. I watched a guy go over which soil is acceptable and bought within his ranges. I have had the tank for a week now and I'm just now getting the clarity in the photo. It's been 24 hours now so I hope it stays. Do you have any filtration at all? I'm going to be looking into nicer plants and I am wondering if I messed up already by not having enough plants now.
I have set up a tank for my husband also, same set up but different layout.
I had a pufferfish when I was a kid, I haven't seen those since then. You must have a decent aquarium shop.
Love all the fish you have. My daughter's tank has 2 honey and 2 trichogaster gourami, one angel, five albino cory, a bristlenose pleco, african frog, and a kuhli loach. One of my sons has a great variety of South African cichlids, and my other son has rainbow sharks, serpae tetras, and tiger barbs.
Their tanks are all 55 gallons.
