When we talk about colonialism, most people immediately think of European powers carving up Africa, Asia, and the Americas — forcing their languages, cultures, and religions onto native peoples.
Fair enough.
But there’s a far older, far more successful form of colonialism that almost no one dares to call out:
Islam.
Islam is, by every definition, an imperialist project that obliterated countless cultures, nations, and languages across the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia, and beyond — and did it so effectively that most of its victims today don’t even realize they were colonized.
