A bit of perspective here. Islam conquered 2/3 of Christendom. From Arabia up through the Levant and the Fertile Crescent and north and east across the Caucuses and Armenia. From Egypt, west across all of North Africa. Gibraltar and up the Iberian peninsula to the gates of France where Martel hammered the bastards back. Sicily. Raping, pillaging and enslaving. These were ALL Christian lands. 450 years of unchecked aggression before we took the fight to them and reappropriated the Holy Land on the First Crusade. 200 years of give and take and Christendom fell down on the job again and allowed The Balkans to fall after they snatched the crown jewel: Byzantium Constantinople, Antioch and all of Anatolia. Arabs, Berbers, Umayyads, Seljuks, Ottomans. Crescent conquerors, all.
Most modern mainline historians has cast Crusaders as barbaric villains and Mohammedans as enlightened, benevolent, soft gloved rulers so long as the jizya was payed. To wit: The movie, Kingdom of Heaven. Shame on Ridely Scott. Utter horseshit.
