I don't know if they still do it, but for a while the POS terminals at Englefield Oil / Duke & Duchess here in central Ohio used that, and the sonic "got a ring" noise as event notifiers. It was hilarious.

Mail.ru bought it from AOHell years ago, and the changing fortunes of time kind of hid it from view.
It was a real kicker to learn that it was headed by a jew, just as mail.ru was. I remember kids were going crazy over unique id numbers, even spending money on them.
