Is it me? Or are people happy paying for bandwidth they don't and can't actually use? The best I can figure is having 1Gbps internet is virtue signaling today. Google is upping the bar with 20Gbps, apparently. Unless you have a cloud business with hundreds of servers, having that kind of bandwidth is a complete waste. Streaming a 4K video only requires about 32Mbps. So even if you're Streaming on 2 monitors, you're still less than 100Mbps. Personally, I use well under 10Mbps of bandwidth at the most. Then you also require all the switches between the server and your computer to have that kind of bandwidth. Crazy shit!

I used 250mpbs for years. I thought it was plenty. The cable company kept nudging the price up until I was paying over $90 per month. So I changed to a different cable company and got 1gbps for half the cost. I didn't think it was going to matter, but the difference is night and day.

Perhaps they also reduced latency.

With those speeds you hardly even notice all the trackers and API calls that load with every click

Yeah because there aren't any lol except the ones I want.

Marketing bullshit. The average US family of 4 only uses on average of 24Mbps per second. If you see a difference, it is latency.

I get by just fine with 50Mbps.. 20Gbps is absurd. If you need that much bandwidth, your probably handling traffic for an organization, or high traffic website/p2p operation which distributes video content. Maybe a metropolis needs this amount of bandwidth to provide public access to traffic cameras..

They need to get everyone ready for 5g tracking and tracing of everything you own and everything you do.

Yes, 5G is really good at locating cell phones, it turns out. Who knew. And, sure, that bandwidth will come in very handy for sending real-time images from all the Ring/video doorbells out there. Then all those Star links will be handy for those people trying to hide in the wilderness.

I hadn't really thought of this. I assumed they were mostly for project bluebeam. I suppose they could be multiuse
