Seems they were still trying to rely on advertising to make money. That wad was shot the first time someone got a drive-by malware infection and looked up adblockers. For me, it's what drove me from Opera to Firefox, as the Opera version at the time (8, 9?) didn't have any adblocking available except as paid extensions. Firefox did, and it was bye bye buy.
