By the time you read your reply, you probably see all the latest edits.

probably. my suggestion doesn't need any edit history though. right now I've read your comment so it's marked as read in the inbox. problem is if you edit your comment in one hour then I'll not get updated about it. my suggestion is just to mark your comment as unread again in my inbox when you edit it, nothing more than that really. So in best case (depending on how the code works) switching one boolean essentially or setting the read_at timestamp to NIL or something.
