Personally I had a good friend whose husband and friends are all long time hunters and they were happy to take me under their wing. I’d recommend taking the hunter’s safety class and talking to some people in the class. Hunters are generally super friendly and more than happy to help newbies get started. We need all the hunters we can get. Don’t be afraid to ask hunters if you can tag along, even if you don’t have your hunter’s safety card or tag. Talk to the guys who work in gun shops, Cabela’s, bass pro, places like that. They’ll be happy to steer you in the right direction. What I did last year, no tag or anything, was walked with a friend while he was hunting and got loads of experience.
