Interesting. I has a full sized PCI slot AND 2x 10gb nic's. If it were x86_64 and at the right price this would be awesome for a homelab (for workloads that don't work on ARM like game servers).

From the post:

>The Minisforum MS-R1 uses the same Cix CD8180 Arm SoC as the Orion O6 I reviewed earlier this year. But everything else about this thing is different. What this thing should be, is a box that runs Linux and can compete with at least an Apple M1 Mac mini, or a mid-range Mini PC. But what we got... is something different.

Too bad this thing costs like $400. I would say that makes it firmly "not really worth it" unless you really want ARM. At that cost you can just get a old off-lease i5/i7 small form factor (SFF). Just try to get one that has a PCIe expansion bay so you can put in a dedicated 10g nic or graphics card for passthrough if that's what you are going for.

Also, yeah. The only thing I use windows for is gaming for games that don't have a native client in linux and don't work well with emulation.

No disagreement here. I have an older Lenovo nuk (I think it's called) Don't remember all the specifics but I only paid a little over $100 for it and it probably overpowers this thing easily.

Yeah, I had a few i5 nuc's but the lack of the ability to add a dedicated nic for my storage network and only having 1gb turned me off of those. I'm thinking about going a bit nuts and buying some off lease tower servers so I can get a couple hundred gigs of ram in them.
