Imagine being as stupid as the modern republican/conservative: every internationally financed communist organization does everything in their power to attack Nazis even 75 years after the end of the war. It never crosses their mind that the enemy that puts the most fear into the international communist movement, the same movement that targets them, might actually be the good guy.

What if they didn't invade Russia and had set up a reverse blitzkrieg.. wait for Russia to come burn everything thry could use then do strategic blitzes into there newly set up positions bomb the fuck out of them go in shoot up as many as you can then retreat back to your homeland defensive location. Rinse and repeat until they can't deal with it.

Yes hindsight is 20/20

Any truth to the Germans not having winter gear when going to invade Russia?

Also, for the winter gear, not at all! The Russian winter didn't kill the Germans, it was the spring mud. Moving panzers up to the line as well as other supplies was nothing short of a shitty time. It's why offensives were launched during literally any other season.

The Germans actually had quite good winter equipment, for the time. They had experience from Norway.

Not as viable as you may think, and that plan is extremely risky. If the Russians were allowed to continue massing for an attack, the Germans would have been overwhelmed. They did think of tactics like you mentioned, or simply holding the middle-Polish border where they split the nation in two, but after much debate and deliberation the only option left was a pre-emptive strike against the USSR.

You have no idea just how close they were to winning, too. It was a razor's edge.
