It is interesting to note that in many other expeditions, a lot of the Europeans attempted to trade/make gifts of gold to the Tahitians, which the Tahitians famously did not give a shit about.
Iron was useful for many things, but gold was just soft and shiny and kind of pretty, but not nearly as soft as the breasts of a Tahitian woman, nor as shiny as the sun on those perfect seas, rendering it relatively worthless in such an earthly paradise.
