Why was the son the replacement judge? Sounds like nepotism. His father was killed for crossing the wrong guy, and they made up the story of bribery to give people the false belief that the courts were just. It would look bad if they killed a judge and admitted that it was done by the powerful simply because they lost a court case and wanted to make sure the court was always stacked in their favor.
