60 years ago famous heavy weight fight took place at Magnificent Wembley Stadium England. The famous fight was promoted by British boxing promoter Jack Solomon.
Today I look back on reflection from that exciting and best memorable night June 18th 1963 at Wembley Stadium England.
Young and energetic Cassius Clay having amazing boxing career record of 18-0-0 met Henry Cooper that was having boxing record of 27-8-1.
Henry Cooper British and Commonwealth Heavy weight Champion his greatest asset was his left hooks and one punch knockout power in heavy weight division.
His greatest weakness was bleeding and most of his losses was result of cut and bleed.
Most of his losses came when his vision had been impaired by blood.
Unbeaten Cassius Clay scaled 207 pound and he captured the imagination of the British boxing fans the home boy and British favorite heavy weight fighter Henry Cooper scaled 185 pound.
In the fourth round British boxing legend Henry Cooper dropped Cassius Clay with spectacular left hook
Cassius Clay remarked in the fourth round " I was hit so hard by that terrific blow his ancestors in Africa felt it".
Famous boxing trainer and corner man Angelo Dundee quick thinker called referee Tommy Little's attention to Clay's glove which was split.
For replacing the boxing glove gave Cassius Clay time to fully recovered.
Many believe Angelo Dundee tore the glove and gave Cassius Clay more time to clear his head.
But films of the fight suggested that the glove had been split in the fourth round.
Referee Tommy Little was called to Clay's corner and then shouted to officials at ringside for a repair, which already had quite near.
There was no question of any one having to go the dressing room to get them as has been suggested.
Ringside time keeper Stan Courtney commented" At no time was I instructed to stop my watch to allow for the refitting of the gloves, therefore I wanted untill I got the signal from referee Little to ring the bell.
When I did so my watch showed that the interval between rounds had in fact been 1 minute 40 seconds.
Before the fight Cassius Clay predicted fifth round and Henry Cooper was stopped due to severely cut eye in the fifth round.
Referee Tom Little said he stopped the fight because he wanted to saved Henry Cooper from possible permanent injury to his eye.
In your opinion did Angelo Dundee have anything to do with the split glove and what are your thoughts?
Did the great White Henry Cooper get shafted to let a commie nigger win. Some think cassius corner man tore his glove so they could get a refitting and give clay time to recover from Henries super hit.
