In 1920, miners in West Virginia were worked hard and worth less than mules to their corporate masters. The miners rebelled and fought a bloody battle against government thugs and mine guards that only ended when President Harding called in the Army. During the battles, the miners wore red handkerchiefs tied around their necks to avoid being accidentally shot by their own side. What happeded in Jan 2021 is reminiscent of the history of the Appalachians in a way.
