The jews worked hard for that one, when the U.S. population overwhelmingly declined to join a war effort against Nazi Germany, (one reason is because the German population in America was rather large at that time. They were in no mood to harm their brothers). The jews had to come up with a different way to "get the Americans into the spirit" if you will.
