FEUDAL JAPAN

Interestingly feudalism had been practiced all over the world. It has worked for the continuation of the organic state with adherence to a monarch/king all in the cosmic order, beholden to divine rights of the king and succession laws. The Japanese counterpart to feudal Europe had been a long forgotten fact but has been a contemporary system in which has worked parallel from medieval European governments stretching from the seas of Scandinavia to the Asiatic bowl.

Perhaps one of the most interesting forms of Feudalism was Japan's system. Although there has been a prerequisite period of Feudalism in Japan, it had not been established until 1185 CE during the late kamakura period and ended in 1603 CE. This feudalism with Japanese characteristics had shoguns (Strong military commanders) instead of inherited emperors and took over the imperial court. The shogun would distribute land to loyal followers which were then supervised by stewards and constables. Moreover this system would soon deteriorate, as stewards and constables would gain more power and create a vast private army to challenge the shogun and compete for power.

STRUCTURE

Feudalism as a whole gave credit to titles, land owners, emphasizing the relationship between lords and vassals. Land was often exchanged for military service, setting up the overall system of Feudalism with Japanese characteristics. This newer system, propped up by Minamota no Yoritomo who had established himself shogun and replaced the emperor and the imperial court. He would then distribute and regulate land to his loyal followers which would usually be taken from rivals in return for their military service.

Although this would be considered a European counterpart from a feudal perspective there were some slight differences between the two, hence why it shall be referred to as feudalism with Japanese characteristics. Unlike in Europe, the lords and vassals in Japan created a very close relationship with each other as opposed to European lords who would consider vassals as mere individuals and subordinates. The former would often be referred to as “oya” meaning parent, this close relationship created a better sense of unity between vassals and lords. This system allowed the shogun to have direct control over most of the territory under his reign, but a lack of formal institutions of government would be a weakness which would liquidate the entire system in the near future.

Feudalism, from a monarchist or even a fascist perspective, understands that between those three systems, all of them usually put adherence to religion deep into the ideological theory. And recognize them as the organic creation of the state under a God ordained nomos system capable of labeling economics as secondary, and the metaphysical traits of identity and immaterialism as primary. Every person under these three systems is duty-bound to work for the continuation of the state and loyalty and honor to their respective kings in the cosmic order.
