Context is important. Have the stones to do what needs to be done.

Eddie Adams wasn’t trying to make a statement when he took the photo, which went on to win a Pulitzer. In fact, he resented how people interpreted it without knowing the full context. Most Americans had no idea who Nguyen Van Lem was or what he did.

South Vietnamese Police Chief Nguyen Ngoc Loan was Lem’s executioner and a friend of the colonel he had murdered. He later immigrated to the U.S. and faced deportation due to being accused of war crimes, but Eddie Adams always vouched for him and apologized for taking the photo.

The sole survivor of the family Nguyen Van Lem murdered was Huan Nguyen, who was only nine at the time. He later immigrated to the U.S. and went on to become the highest ranked Vietnamese-American officer in the military when he was promoted to the rank of rear admiral in the US Navy.

Got your back there. I hadn't seen that clip in probably 40 years. What a fucking mess that time was. Friends are still fucked up from all our heroic effort to save VN from themselves. Nasty bastard slit the throats of kids. Too bad they couldn't have done worse to him. Ugly memories.

Missed the war by a few years. Yea not a good time to return home after that one. A story, when my friend returned home. He was confronted by his high school buddies telling him he was wrong, a criminal, conformist, not a free thinking, doing what the man wanted. His reply was "What the fuck you talking about, when I left you were normal. Now you all dress exactly the same, have the identical hair styles and use the same slang. You are all sheep". Things really never change.

Glad you missed it. It was the last time we resorted to using an army of slaves. I hope the kids I've influenced over the years won't stand for that. I'm not quiet about the meaning of draft registration. They have to do it if they want to become enslaved to student loans....
